Licensed Content
[Updated: 09 Oct 2025]
Any time you are required to log in to access content on a website, the terms of use for the subscription define your responsibilities. These terms of use are a way in which rights holders pre-authorize certain permitted uses for all the content covered by that subscription or licence. Before reproducing and sharing licensed content, be sure to review the terms and conditions.
U of A Library Licensed Resources
The licenses a broad range of content for use by members of the 91ÒùĸÊÓƵ community. These online resources (e.g., journal articles and ebooks) are made available through the library’s search interface and databases. Due to the variability in licence terms, it is best practice to provide other CCID holders with a persistent (static) hyperlink to the original source instead of copying and sharing the work.
Linking to Licensed Library Resources
Licensed resources that are restricted to students, faculty, and staff require CCID authentication. In terms of access to these resources, it is the Library’s EZProxy server that facilitates off-campus access through the use of persistent links. To confirm whether or not a link to a licensed library resource is a persistent link, check for “login.ezproxy.library.ualberta.ca” within the URL.
To learn how to create a persistent link by adding an EZProxy prefix to a URL, see the page.
