Using the LRT for Business Travel
Travelling between campuses for university business on the LRT and public transit:
- The Unit and/or employee purchases an from Edmonton Transit (card
cost $6); - The card will be delivered through Canada Post mail to the address specified at time of purchase;
- When the card is received, the card is registered on the Arc Card website;
- The unit/employee adds funds to the account through the website;
- Payment for the funds loaded to the Arc Card are processed on a University of
91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ Purchasing Card (PCard); and - Card use: the traveler taps the kiosk when they arrive at the station/bus and tap
the kiosk when the exit the train/bus.
Please note that your regular commute to and from your primary office, including from a university parking lot to another eligible station, is not an eligible use.
Getting approved for business travel
Talk to your supervisor to get approval for business travel using an Arc Card. Your
unit may provide you with an Arc Card or you can purchase one personally and have
the unit load funds onto the card on your behalf.

How do I know if I’m eligible to ride public transit for university business?
Review this requirement with your supervisor for approval. Your supervisor can arrange to provide you an Arc Card or they instruct you to purchase a card directly and expense the card value on a PCard.

I park near an LRT station. Can I park and then ride the LRT to my office on any campus?
You can, however the cost of this is a personal expense. The university only covers the cost of public transit when using it for business purposes, personal commuting is not covered. Employees are responsible for the logistics and costs associated with commuting between a personal residence and their primary workplace.
Can I travel on any public transit (LRT, buses, etc.)?
Yes, all public transit is eligible for use when travelling for university business. The Arc Card is available for use on buses.

Can I show my ONEcard as proof of payment for approved business travel?
No. The City of Edmonton has removed the ONEcard program for transit.
