Certificate in Applied Social Science 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ

The Certificate in Applied Social Science 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ is an interdisciplinary certificate aimed at developing students’ research skills in the social sciences through a combination of course work and hands-on research experience.

Overview

Completing the certificate allows students to develop their research skills and provides students with marketable skills and experiences in applied social research and substantial preparation for graduate study in the social sciences or other employment pathways.

Eligibility

This certificate is available to all undergraduate students at the 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ. Note that although this Certificate is open to undergraduate students across faculties, it is primarily geared toward those enrolled in the Faculty of Arts.

Requirements

  • 3 units in an introductory overview course in social science methodology from:
    • HGEO 399: 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ Methods in Human Geography
    • HIST 290: Introduction to History as a Discipline
    • LING 375: Linguistics Directed 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ I
    • LING 523: Introduction Statistics for Linguistic Data
    • NS 390: 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ Methods in Indigenous Studies
    • PLAN 399: 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ Methods in Planning
    • PSYCH 212: Introduction to 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ Methods in Psychology
    • SCI 101: Foundations of Science
    • SOC 315: Introduction to Social Methodology
    • WGS 302: Feminist 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ and Methodologies
  • 6 units in advanced methods or statistics courses from
  • 3 units in
    • SOC 415: Applied 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ Internship OR
    • 3 units in a Capstone social science research project involving either a research internship or research-based honors thesis/individual study, usually with a faculty member in the student’s home department or program. .
