Undergraduate Programs
The Department of Drama is committed to the training and education of the future artists and visionary leaders of the theatre world. Drama students discover by doing. That's why all seven of our undergraduate degree programs offer up-on-your-feet learning opportunities and hands-on training to support and enrich your theatre journey.
Graduate Programs
Our graduate programs foster a unique combination of practical and critical skills, with an adventurous, visionary attitude. We believe that live performance is the nexus of all aspects of the discipline of theatre, and all of our graduate students participate in this culture of research and creative activity.

Timms Centre for the Arts
The performance hub of the Department of Drama, the Timms Centre for the Arts is home to the intimate mainstage theatre, a versatile black box performance space, spacious lobby, bright rehearsal hall, seminar room and more.

With over 25 in-house productions a year, our Drama students have many opportunities to create theatre. Theatre in performance is what our international reputation for excellence is built on.
Message from the Chair
The future is community. Drama at 91ÒùĸÊÓƵ has been a part of the national theatre community for 78 years beginning as a division and offering the country’s first BFA Acting, Design, Directing, and Playwriting. We have grown into one of the country’s largest and most comprehensive Departments of Drama with 11 distinct programs of study. Studio Theatre productions have been part of the Edmonton theatre community since 1949, when there wasn't any professional theatre in town and the only available venue was a post WWII quonset used to house returning veteran students. Drama at 91ÒùĸÊÓƵ enriches our campus community with dozens of performances every year. Our Alumni are engaged around the globe building arts communities and shaping the world.

Department of Drama Reunion Weekend | May 16-18, 2025
To help celebrate 75 years of Studio Theatre, the 80th Anniversary of the BA Program, 30 years of the BFA Production Degree, and 30 years of ABBEDAM, the Department of Drama is planning a reunion! All students, staff, faculty, instructors and supporters who have been a part of the U of A Department of Drama are invited.
