Gifts from Outside Canada

The 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ is committed to excellence in teaching and research and to the fundamental principles of academic freedom. Philanthropic support is an important element in advancing research and education. Donations from individuals and organizations help the university achieve its academic mission and enhance its programs and services to students and researchers.

Gift from the U.S.

Under the Canada-United States Income Tax Convention, 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ alumni and their families (defined as: spouses, children, grandchildren, parents and siblings) may make donations directly to the 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ and use the 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ charitable gift receipt for their U.S. income tax returns.

However, to facilitate giving from American citizens (or residents) who are not U of A alumni or related to U of A alumni, as well as gifts from corporations and foundations requiring a U.S. tax receipt, the 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ has established the 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ Foundation U.S.A. Inc. Individuals and organizations that make a gift to the U of A through this foundation will be issued a U.S. charitable gift receipt (please see below for mailing address).

Gift from the U.K.

Residents from the United Kingdom, who would like to make a gift to the 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ, will receive a UK tax receipt by . The 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ is a Named Fund member of the Chapel & York UK Foundation Ltd and gifts can be directed to specific funds where applicable and available.

If you’re a UK taxpayer, you may be able to claim on your donation, increasing your gift’s value by 25 percent.

Gifts from Other Countries

The 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ has thousands of alumni and friends living in all parts of the world. Gifts received from alumni and friends living outside of Canada and the United States will be recognized with a Canadian charitable gift receipt. Donors should consult their own financial advisors on the validity of charitable gift receipts in their jurisdiction, for gifts made to the 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ or the 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ Foundation U.S.A. Inc.
