MLCS supports a strong and diverse research community. Our outstanding faculty members have research interests that span the globe as well as wealth of academic fields, including applied linguistics, comparative literature, cultural studies, feminist, gender and sexuality studies, film studies, folklore, literary studies, media studies, second language acquisition and pedagogy, translation studies, and more.
Our research excellence is exemplified throughout our ranks, from our undergraduate students winning Roger S. Smith Undergraduate 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ Awards or receiving recognition at the Festival of Undergraduate 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ and Creative Activities, graduate students winning awards in the Images of 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµ Competition or advancing in the Three Minute Thesis competition and faculty members being recognized by a variety of honors and awards, such as Dr. Astrid Ensslin, Dr. Carrie Smith, and Dr. Natalie Van Deusen, all recognized with a Faculty of Arts 91ÒùĸÊÓÆµer of the Year award. MLCS currently houses several endowed professorships and chairs, including the Kule Chair in Ukrainian Ethnography and the Henry Cabot and Linnea Lodge Professor of Scandinavian Studies.
