Neurodevelopmental Mental Health and Behaviour Fellowship
Overview
The Neurodevelopmental Mental Health and Behaviour Fellowship is an additional year of fellowship training created for the purpose of enhancing skills in assessing and managing neurodevelopmental, mental health and behavioural challenges in children and youth with differences in brain development. Differences in brain developmental may occur due to genetic mutations; prenatal or perinatal infection, exposures or injury; acquired brain injury; stroke and chronic; and/or complex medical conditions or intervention.
Goals of this training program are to build competency in practice for residents after final year of training and completion of board certification in pediatric neurology, general pediatrics or child and adolescent psychiatry to be able to support the mental health and behaviour of children with complex medical presentations.
There will be no call requirements for this program.
Curriculum
Required Training Experiences
- Brain Injury Clinic (1 block minimum
- Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (1 block minimum)
- School Age Neurodevelopmental Assessment (3 blocks)
- Infant and Preschool Neurodevelopmental Assessment (3 blocks)
- Genetics (2 weeks minimum)
- Metabolics (2 week minimum)

Eligibility Criteria
- Canadian medical graduates ONLY
- Eligible for or have passed the Royal College examination in Pediatric Neurology, General Pediatrics or Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
- FRCPC or equivalent medical qualification
Funding
Qualified candidates are eligible for one year of fellowship funding, in addition to conference and travel support.
