Indigenous Applicants

The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is committed to the recruitment, retention, and graduation of Indigenous students.

All Indigenous applicants who meet the application requirements and who are successful in the Indigenous admissions process will be recommended by the Indigenous Admissions Subcommittee to the MD Admissions Committee for admission. Indigenous applicants are considered in the 91ÒùĸÊÓƵn pool and therefore only need to meet the 91ÒùĸÊÓƵn minimum requirements.

For the purpose of application and admission to the 91ÒùĸÊÓƵ, and in accordance with the Constitution Act, 1982, Part II, Section 35(2), an Indigenous applicant is an Indian, Inuit, or Métis person of Canada.

Applicants who wish to be considered for an Indigenous position should submit the following supporting documentation by the application deadline:

  1. A personal statement that describes your involvement in or connection to Indigenous communities or organizations, submitted through your U91ÒùĸÊÓƵ Launchpad.
  2. If you feel it would strengthen your application, you are welcome to provide us with a reference letter from someone who could also attest to your involvement or connection to Indigenous communities or organizations. This should be submitted through your U91ÒùĸÊÓƵ Launchpad.
  3. Notarized proof of Indigenous ancestry as outlined in the 91ÒùĸÊÓƵ Calendar, submitted through your U91ÒùĸÊÓƵ Launchpad.

All Indigenous applicants who are interested in the Doctor of Medicine Program are encouraged to contact the Indigenous Health Program.
